Supporting School-Aged Children with Complex Needs
Raising a child with additional needs can be both rewarding and challenging—especially when those needs include behavioural differences, epilepsy, and continence issues. At OpenHearted Support, we understand that school environments must be inclusive, safe, and supportive to enable every child to succeed.

Helping Your Child Thrive at School and Beyond

We work closely with families, schools, and allied health professionals to create holistic support that addresses both educational and health needs.

Collaborative Support with Schools

We believe in strong partnerships with schools. Our team works alongside teachers, wellbeing staff, and school-based therapists to:

  • Share care plans and behaviour strategies
  • Educate school staff about seizure safety and response protocols
  • Support toileting and continence management plans
  • Advocate for classroom adjustments and sensory-friendly environments
  • Help with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and NDIS-related documents
  • This collaborative approach ensures your child feels confident, safe, and included throughout the school day.

NDIS Services Tailored for School-Aged Participants

OpenHearted Support provides a range of NDIS-funded services that support children in both home and school settings:

  • Behaviour Support Practitioners to address challenging behaviours and teach self-regulation strategies
  • Registered Nurses to manage epilepsy care plans, medication, and continence routines
  • Occupational Therapists for fine motor skills, sensory integration, and classroom participation
  • Physiotherapists to help with mobility and sports participation
  • Continence Assessments and ongoing toileting support for independence.
  • All supports are customised based on your child's goals, needs, and NDIS plan.

    Inclusion in Play and Sports

Physical activity is vital for growth and development. We support children to participate confidently in sports and recreational activities by:

  • Creating exercise and motor planning programs
  • Providing 1-on-1 support in local sports groups
  • Coordinating with school PE staff
  • Helping build social confidence through group activities
  • Whether your child wants to join a team or just enjoy playground time, we make sure they feel included and capable.

We Are With You Every Step of the Way

From navigating NDIS plans to working with school teams and supporting everyday needs, our goal is to make sure your child receives the best possible care.

We understand how important respect, dignity, and individualisation are when it comes to children. That’s why our services are family-centred and focused on long-term success.
